Tommy Connolly is a 23-year-old athlete and college student. He’s also a father, and a… grandfather. You might be thinking to yourself, “Wait, how in the world in that possible?” Interestingly enough, it is.
It all started when he got a message on Facebook from his cousin, a pregnant, homeless 17-year-old. Although quite some time had passed since they were in contact with one another, she reached out to him for help as a last resort.
Without hesitation, Connolly took her under his wing and brought her into his home. To ensure that she and her baby would stay off the streets for good, he legally adopted her.
“I was really excited to hear from her because I’ve always had a soft spot for her. She was my favourite little cousin, she was the sweetest girl and we got along so well,” Tommy told news.com.au.
Then, just a week later, she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, which became his “grandson.”
“If it’s one or two years of my life I have to put on hold, to make sure two lives are going to be saved, it’s nothing at all,” he explained.
Once word of his story spread around the world, people were inspired by his selfless act of kindness. In fact, a GoFundMe account set up for the family raised more than $40,000 in just 18 days.
