The Federal Government has intensified monitoring and screening procedures at all entry points into the country due to the rising mpox cases, which have reached 39 across 33 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention reported no deaths from the outbreak.

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Pate, stated that the government has taken measures to fortify the country’s defenses, including requiring travelers to complete an online health declaration form before arrival.

Infectious disease centers have also been activated in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The minister advised the public to practice good hygiene and frequent hand washing to mitigate the impact of the outbreak.

Recall that the Africa Centre for Disease Control declared a public health emergency over the growing mpox outbreak on the continent, which has affected several African countries, particularly the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In a related development, the Rivers State Government presented 46 motorcycles to tuberculosis supervisors to enhance tracking and treatment of the infection in hard-to-reach areas.
